Currencies

The base currency
One currency is the base. Every product's real price is stored in it, and every other currency converts from it. The base currency is chosen during installation (USD, EUR, GBP or INR) and cannot be changed afterwards, because changing it would re-price your whole catalog without converting the numbers.
Add currencies
Add each extra currency with its code and its rate relative to the base currency. Mark it Active to make it selectable across the app. A currency that is already used keeps its stored values if you later deactivate it.
Exchange rates
- Update Exchange Rates fetches the current rates now from a free public source (no account or key needed) and fills in each currency's rate.
- Update Product Prices recalculates product prices in other currencies from the base.
- A daily job (
php artisan currency:sync) does both automatically when the Currency Sync switches in Automation Settings are on. It is off until you turn it on. - The table shows when each rate last changed. A currency with Update rate automatically switched off keeps the rate you type, for example when you want your own margin or a fixed rate.
- If the source is down, or does not offer a currency, the other source is tried. If none answers, your stored rates stay as they were and the page says so. A currency that no source offers needs its rate set by hand.
Conversion fee adjustment
Each currency (except the base) has a Conversion Fee Adjustment (%). It is added to the actual exchange rate, and the result is the final rate that every price uses. If today's actual rate is 1 USD = 100 INR and you set +10, the final rate is 1 USD = 110 INR. A negative number lowers the rate: -5 turns 100 into 95.
- The table shows the final rate, with the actual rate and the percentage underneath.
- When you change the percentage, that currency's product prices are recalculated straight away (prices you set by hand on a product are left alone).
- The daily sync keeps updating the actual rate and applies your percentage on top, so the fee stays in place.
- Invoices already issued keep their amounts; new orders use the final rate.
Rate sources
Choose the source in Automation Settings > Currency Sync > Rate Source:
- Frankfurter (default): rates from central banks, updated every day, about 165 currencies.
- Currency API (jsDelivr): community data, updated every day, about 340 currencies, including many that central banks do not publish.
Both are free for commercial use. Your server needs to reach the internet (outgoing HTTPS), which normal hosting does.
Per-product prices
On a product's Details tab you can set a price per currency yourself instead of using the converted amount.
What clients see
The storefront has a currency switcher. The choice is kept for the visit. Invoices are issued in the currency the order was placed in, and reports convert other currencies back to the base currency.
