Currency by country
Oct 25, 2026
Instead of showing every visitor your base currency, WHBMP can start each visitor in the currency of their country. You decide which countries see which currency, and which currency everyone else sees.
Example
- INR is your base currency, for India only.
- GBP is for the United Kingdom.
- EUR is for the EU countries.
- USD is the everyone else currency, so a visitor from the USA, or from any country you did not list, sees USD.
Set it up
- Make sure every currency you want is added and active under Settings > Currency Settings, with its rate (or fixed product prices).
- In the Currency by country card, tick Choose the currency from the visitor's country.
- Under Everyone else gets, pick the currency for countries you did not list, for example USD. Leave it on The base currency if you want the base for everyone else.
- For each currency, pick its countries in the list. Hold Ctrl (Cmd on a Mac) to pick several. Add all EU countries selects the 27 EU member states in one click.
- Press Save.
A country can have only one currency; WHBMP refuses a save that lists a country twice and tells you which one.
Where the country comes from
The country comes from Cloudflare, which adds it to every request when the site is behind it. In Cloudflare, open Network for your domain and switch IP Geolocation on, otherwise the country is missing and every visitor gets the "everyone else" currency. No plugin and no account with a geolocation company is needed. A plugin can add another way to find the country later (for example a local database for sites that are not behind Cloudflare).
Rules to know
- It only chooses the first currency. The choice is made once when the visitor arrives and is remembered for the visit. The currency switcher on the storefront still works, and what the visitor picks wins.
- Signed-in clients keep their own currency. The currency on a client's account is never changed by their country.
- Search engines always get the "everyone else" currency, so search results and cached pages do not depend on who asked first.
- Unknown country (Cloudflare cannot tell, or a private network): the visitor gets the "everyone else" currency.
- What a visitor pays in is the currency they see at checkout. Orders and invoices keep that currency.
- Prices in each currency come from your exchange rates and conversion fees, or from the fixed prices you set per product.
