License and activation

Every WHBMP installation is activated with a license key. You get the key when you buy a license at whbmp.com.

What a license is tied to

A license is locked to one domain and one server IP address. The License page shows both. If either changes, for example when you move to a new server, you must move the license (see below).

Activate

Open System > License in the admin area (also reachable from Settings > License) and enter your key. WHBMP contacts the license store at whbmp.com, which checks the key, the domain and the IP, and returns a signed license. The page then shows:

  • Status: Active, Active (offline grace), Expired, Invalid or Not Activated
  • Package and billing cycle
  • Next due date
  • License type
  • Domain and Server IP
  • Works until (or Lifetime) and Updates until
  • Includes: what the license entitles you to
  • Last checked

You can also activate from the command line:

php artisan license:activate YOUR-LICENSE-KEY

How the license is checked

WHBMP checks the license once a day through the scheduler, so the cron job must be running. You can check at any time with Check Now on the License page.

Offline grace period

If the license store cannot be reached, WHBMP keeps running until an offline grace date. The License page shows Active (offline grace) and the date the admin area will lock unless a check succeeds. Fix the connection (the server must be able to reach whbmp.com over HTTPS) and press Check Now.

Moving to a new server

  1. On the old installation open the License page and press Deactivate (Move Server). This frees the license.
  2. Install or restore WHBMP on the new server.
  3. Activate the same key there. The license now binds to the new domain and IP.

If the old server is gone and you cannot deactivate, contact support from your account at whbmp.com and ask for the license to be reset.

Updates and plugins

A valid license is needed to download updates and to install plugins from the store, including free plugins. Updates until is the last date you can install new versions; the software keeps working after that date.

Installations that need no license

The license store itself and local development copies are exempt. The License page says so when that applies.
