WHBMP

Requirements

Oct 15, 2026

WHBMP runs on most shared hosting plans and on any VPS. The installer checks everything below before it lets you continue, so you can also just start the install and read the result.

Server

Requirement Needed
PHP 8.2 or newer (8.3 and 8.4 are fine)
Database MySQL or MariaDB
Web server Apache, LiteSpeed or nginx, with the document root pointing at the public folder
Cron One cron job, every 5 minutes (see Setting up the cron job)
HTTPS Strongly recommended. Payment gateways and many browsers require it.

You do not need Docker, Redis, Node.js, Supervisor or SSH access to run WHBMP. SSH makes some tasks easier but is not required.

PHP extensions

Required: pdo_mysql, mbstring, openssl, tokenizer, xml, ctype, json, bcmath, fileinfo, curl, dom, filter, session.

Recommended: gd (PDF and image work) and zip (the one-click updater needs it). A missing recommended extension never blocks the install, but the matching feature will not work.

On cPanel you can switch these on in Select PHP Version (CloudLinux) or MultiPHP INI Editor.

Folders that must be writable

The web server user must be able to write to:

  • storage and everything under it (storage/app, storage/framework, storage/logs)
  • bootstrap/cache
  • the .env file, or the application folder if .env does not exist yet (the installer writes it)

Recommended PHP settings

  • memory_limit of 128 MB or more. This is PHP's usual default and what System Health checks for; below it you get a warning. If an update or a large PDF export runs out of memory, raise it to 256 MB.
  • max_execution_time of 60 seconds or more
  • upload_max_filesize and post_max_size large enough for the attachments and downloads you plan to allow

Browser support

The admin area and client area work in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.

Checking an existing installation

Open System > System Health in the admin area. It checks PHP, permissions, cron, mail and updates and tells you what to fix. Settings > System Information shows the PHP version, loaded extensions and server details.
