Sell License

Sell License issues and manages license keys for software you sell. Each key is locked to a domain and an IP address (you choose which are checked, per product). The licensed software calls a public verification API on your own site to check itself in, and the answer says whether the key is valid.

A product of the Software License type issues a key when the service is created. Staff can also issue keys by hand. Staff can see, suspend, reissue and revoke keys; clients see their keys on their service and can move them to a new server when the product allows it.

To protect your software, open Licenses and click Download Client. It gives you LicenseClient.php, ready with your own site's address, to drop into your software and call before it runs.

Keys and your signing key

Every key starts with a prefix you set on the product (LIC by default). Your site makes a signing key of its own when Sell License is installed; back it up with your other files. See License keys and your signing key.

License style

Each Software License product has a License Style section. A plain license is one key for one domain. Switch on a style to sell more:

• License with plugins, modules or addons: the plan unlocks the premium plugins you tick. See Sell plans that include plugins.
• Bulk license: one key for several sites: one key works on 1, 5, unlimited sites or a number you choose, with free staging sites and automatic updates inside wp-admin for WordPress plugins. See Sell a WordPress plugin with Sell License.

For each WordPress plugin (software) or add-on you get a small client file under License > WordPress Client (switch it on first under License > Licensing Manager > Help). It points at your own site and your own software, checks the license key the customer enters, and shows your updates in wp-admin.

WHBMP License Reseller

Sell WHBMP licenses to your own customers from your storefront. Orders are issued automatically through your reseller account at whbmp.com. This is for selling WHBMP, not your own software: use Sell License for that.

Product Downloads

Attach files (installers, manuals, licensed software) to a product. A client can download them once their service on that product is Active.

• Files are stored in the place you choose in File Storage (needs WHBMP 2.2.0 or newer).
• A "latest release" file can be supplied to Sell License.

Notes

• All of these are installed from Plugins > Add New and need an active WHBMP license. Sell License is a premium plugin: the Plugins page shows how to get it.
• Test the full path (order, license issued, software checks in, move to a new server) before you sell.
• Back up your signing key (storage/app/private/licensing/private.pem). If it is lost, licenses you signed earlier can no longer be verified by software that holds the old public key.
