Protect accounts with a second sign-in step. Clients and staff add an authenticator app, and from then on sign-in needs a six-digit code from their phone as well as their password.

What it does

  • Works with the apps people already use: Google Authenticator, Authy, Microsoft Authenticator and any other app that follows the standard TOTP method.
  • Easy setup: a QR code to scan, then a first code to confirm. It needs nothing extra on your server.
  • Recovery codes: eight one-time codes, so a lost phone does not mean a locked-out customer.
  • For staff and clients: each manages it from their own account page.
  • Require it for a client: staff can turn on "Require Two-Factor Authentication" for a client, who is then asked to set it up.
  • Secure by default: secrets and recovery codes are stored encrypted, and a small clock difference between phone and server is tolerated.

Good to know

  • Turning the plugin off pauses the second step for everyone, including people who had set it up, and hides the setup screens. Their settings come back when you turn it on.
  • Staff can reset a user's two-factor from the Staff Users page if they lose their codes.

    Make sure your WHBMP installation has an active license.

    In your WHBMP admin, go to Addons → Browse.

    Find Google Authenticator 2FA and click Install, then Activate.

    Open the addon's settings from the Addons page to configure it.

Notes

  • Translations: The translations are a first draft written by machine. They are part of WHBMP 2.18.0; on an older WHBMP the screens stay in English.
