Google says "Your Google tag wasn't detected
Oct 19, 2026
If you added your Analytics tag inside Google Tag Manager, the Test your website button in Analytics frequently reports "Your Google tag wasn't detected" even though tracking works. Do not paste the snippet into your site to make the message go away: that counts every visit twice.
Check that it really works:
- In Analytics open Reports > Realtime and keep it open.
- Open your site in a private window.
- You should appear as an active user within a minute.
If nothing appears:
- In Tag Manager, check that the Google tag has your
G-Measurement ID and the All Pages trigger, and that you clicked Submit > Publish. - In Marketing Tags (WHBMP admin), check the Container ID matches the container you edited and has no spaces.
- View the page source of your site and search for your
GTM-ID. If it is missing, check that the Google Tag Manager & Ads plugin is activated. - For a Page Builder page, open Page Builder and click Clear page cache, then check the page again.
- Turn off ad blockers while testing. They block Google's scripts.
